Darling Quarter
The new $500 million Darling Quarter community precinct at Darling Harbour opened in September 2011.
The Lend Lease development combines 59,000 square metres of commercial space In Commonwealth Bank Place for the bank's new Australian headquarters, with 5,000 square metres of retail space.
There are numerous dining options, an open community green, a multi-purpose children's theatre and 4,000 square metre public playground. The precinct also includes a 600-space public car park.
The twin seven-storey towers house more than 6,500 workers and have set a new benchmark for green building design in Australia. The development has been awarded a 6 Star Green Star Office Design v3 from the Green Building Council of Australia.
The project delivered a number of major sustainable outcomes, including a potable water reduction of 90 per cent through rainwater harvesting and onsite water recycling initiatives
The children's playground is the biggest free playground in Sydney and the only one of its kind in Australia. The state-of-the-art space includes interactive water and lighting features, tandem slide, sand diggers, giant climbing net, balancing beams, spinning wheel, tunnels and a flying fox.
The playground is enhanced with aromatic native plants and palm trees to provide shade. A kiosk and shelter areas are provided for parents and carers.
